was established in September 2021 by Kevin Harvey, Director, BA Hons. (Econ).
Career:
Kevin Harvey has been involved with the Japanese equity market since 1983 in several different roles. Initially he worked for Cazenove & Co, a leading UK stockbroking partnership (now part of JP Morgan), where he was a generalist analyst and salesman. He was based in Tokyo for five years in the 1980s and 1990s and in the latter period he was Cazenove & Co Japan’s Branch Manager. When he wasn’t based in Tokyo he was a roving analyst/salesman, spending a month a year visiting companies in Japan. He subsequently worked in London in institutional sales for BZW, Warburg (which became UBS) and, until June 2021, SMBC Nikko (part of SMFG).
Over a career which has spanned five decades, Kevin has carried out thousands of meetings and calls with Japanese corporates and has written research on hundreds of companies in all sectors. Since the 1990s, his main area of interest has been value investing. In late 2021, having recovered from cancer, he established Japan Research Consultants to provide consultancy services on Japanese equities.

I envisage Japan Research Consultants as being a transition between full time work and retirement. I see it as being largely a bespoke business with a focus on intrinsic value. JRC will be independent and will not take fees from corporates. I plan to split my time between JRC and other interests which, at this moment, include volunteering for a couple of local charities, learning Spanish, teaching myself to paint, long walks (Cumbrian Way and Cotswold Way over the last 18 months) and making up the numbers for my village cricket team.” KH

As of March 2022, Japan Research Consultants has reached an agreement with Zennor Asset Management to become an advisor.
